Travel Recap: December 2015 & Yearly Recap

As the year comes to a close, I can’t help but look back on 2015 with great memories. This year has been full of traveling adventures all over the world. With travels in Southeast Asia, Europe, and the U.S., I’ve literally circled the globe. (Bucket list ✔)

It’s now been 3.5 years since I left for my first backpacking trip to Europe in 2012. My desire for travel has only grown stronger over the years, especially long term travel. The more I travel, the more I learn about the world, different cultures, people and myself. Traveling, especially solo, is such an incredible experience I hope everyone will experience at least once in their life.

December High Points & Low Points

This month didn’t quite go as planned. I returned home from my out West trip with my Dutch boyfriend at the beginning of December. At the end of the trip, we decided to end things with us – mainly because of the fact that a long distance relationship internationally is unbelievably difficult. I mean if you don’t plan on marrying the person, it really is just pointless; and I’m definitley not ready to put roots down yet.

So the breakup has been difficult, but I know it was the right thing. I was actually supposed to leave for Thailand this month. Unfortunately, for doctor reasons I had to delay my trip, which I’m honestly not that upset about. After recently returning from a road trip and dealing with the breakup, I’m really not in any mood to deal with the backpacking lifestyle right now. (I can just imagine being at a hostel and then bursting into tears for no reason. Yeah, I think it’s best I had to delay.) The part I am upset about is that I paid for my flight to Bangkok with points, which I won’t get back. So there goes basically $420 bucks down the drain. Totally sucks, but what am I gonna do.

On the upside to this rather upsetting month, I’m able to spend the holidays with family. I had a great Christmas with my family in Florida, and now I’ll be spending New Years in Ohio with extended family. There’s always a silver lining.

About Devon Nicole

Hey! My name is Devon. I'm a 20-something girl from the sunny state of Florida, USA. In 2012, I made the scary decision to backpack Europe SOLO. Now it's 3 years later and I've traveled to over 30 countries in North America, Europe, Africa, and Asia! I created this blog to inspire other young women to travel abroad solo too. There's a whole world out there just waiting to be explored!
